The Words From Kids
On Thursday Hannah went to a cheer clinic that the high school cheerleaders put on for a fundraiser. They will perform next Tuesday during halftime of the girl's basketball game. She was very excited & I really didn't get to talk to her about it because I had to work at the concession stand. So when I got home she came right up to me & she wanted to inform me what all took place at cheer clinic.
Hannah: Mom I want to tell you what happened at cheer clinic.
Me: Okay.
Hannah: Well I get to be on top of the period.
Me: The period? Do you mean the pyramid?
Hannah: Yeah the pyramid.
Me: Well I'm very excited for you.
She makes me laugh :)

Ice Day
Yesterday Colton came down feeling yuck and running a fever.
Isn't he pitiful looking? Dosed him up with medicine and sent him back upstairs informing him to stay away from everyone. It started icing but Madill was still opened for business. All of the schools around us was closed but not us. I got back home from taking Hannah and picking up the boys to start calling the dr.'s office. Finally got an appointment for Colton and he has tonsillitis, not strep thank you. Got a call from the schools and they were letting the kids out 1 hour early. The ice just kept getting worse and finally around 8:00 last night they finally put Madill on the tv for being closed, yea! I was glad because it gives Colton one more day at home getting antibiotics in him. If he doesn't get more than 3 absences the whole semester & he has passing grades he doesn't have to take semester tests at the end of school.
Here are a few pictures I took this morning of the icy trees.

This is a card I did for the card challenge at AMR. I used a sketch from here.
It got cold again. We are under a Winter Storm Warning. Colton had a basketball game out of town but it was cancelled thank you. It is just one of those nights to have a fire and to stay home. We heard thru the grapevine that the game for tomorrow night has been cancelled but haven't heard for sure. Our source is pretty reliable so I'm crossing my fingers.

Ice Fishing
So last Thursday Brent calls me and the following conversation occured:
Phone rings
Me: hello
Brent: I kinda got a wild hair up my butt.
Me: ok
Brent: I want to go up to Iowa this weekend and go ice fishing.
Me: huh?
Brent: I was thinking about going up to Iowa and go ice fishing you know I've always wanted to do that. Do you think Colton would want to go?
Me: uhhhh no!
Brent: Well I don't want to drive that far by myself.
Me: ok
In my mind he isn't going but sometime after that call he has booked a flight to Kansas City and headed out after work Friday. A little weekend ice fishing trip turned into 4 1/2 days business trip.
The following pictures were taken by Brent. I told him to be sure and get a picture of the shanty and the only reason I knew it was called a shanty is because I've seen Grumpy Old Men.
Making the hole.
Getting the ice out. And I must give a little shout out to Brent for capturing all of the steps of getting ready to ice fish. But where is the shanty? For some reason it was to heavy to move.
This is Paul the pond donor. Funny how the pond donor always catches the most fish. (note to Paul ~ Brent made me put that, sorry)
Doug caught a nice size catfish.
And Brent caught a itty bitty teeny tiny bluegill perch.
There's the shanty & if you can't bring the shanty to you,
then go to the shanty & use it as a windbreak.
This is Tom & Jane. Brent wants to say thanks for a wonderful time.

Birds of a Feather
A LO I did for a challenge at AMR.
The picture was taken on Christmas Eve after we took a family picture for my grandma. The kids were goofing around and I had my brother in law Rick take it for me. He said it was the best picture of the day. They are really sweet together when they aren't fighting :)

Things to Know
To all of you, there are certain critical things one must remember and ponder as we enter the new year. Some Important Zen teachings
1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me for the path is narrow. In fact, just piss off and leave me alone.
2. Sex is like air. It's not important unless you aren't getting any.
3. No one is listening until you fart.
4. Always remember you're unique. Just like everyone else.
5. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.
6. If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.
7. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes
8. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
9. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
10. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably well worth it.
11. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.
12. Some days you are the bug; some days you are the windshield.
13. Don't worry; it only seems kinky the first time.
14. Good judgment comes from bad experience, and most of that comes from bad judgment.
15. A closed mouth gathers no foot.
16. There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works.
17. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.
18. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
19. We are born naked, wet and hungry, and get slapped on
our ass ... then things just get worse.
20. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
You're welcome :)

A Thing My Kids Think I Do
The little pond is really low & we noticed something sticking out earlier but finally realized it was a stop sign. So we are going to school yesterday morning and Colton just now saw the sign there. He asked me if I put it there. Yes, I'm 39 years old and I steal street signs for fun and hide them in the pond.

Wylie Coyote & Friend
It doesn't take much to get us excited here in the country. Brent was going out the backdoor this morning and said there is a coyote next to the barn. I got up and looked and sure enough there he/she was. It just stood there staring at us. Of course my camera was upstairs with the wrong lens attached but it just kept standing there so I thought I'll run up and grab the camera really fast. So I opened the blind when I got up there and it was still standing there. I'm changing out the lens and look out again and now there was 2 of them. Brent hollered at me saying there was 2 so I just took the pictures from the upstairs windows. They started running towards the pond and I finally got the picture of them on the pond dam. It was hard seeing them because they blended in so well.
This was the first one we saw.
This is his/her buddy.
Like I said, doesn't take much to excite us :)

The First LO of 2009
It has been so long since I actually did a page for my album. The craziest of the holidays and life didn't give me any spare time to do fun things. I've had a clipping of a LO I cut out of CK that I wanted to lift so I did. I hand stitched along the pattern paper. Hopefully I will have more to come after the weekend.
Journaling reads: 10/08 Colton & Hannah hanging out on the trampoline being goofy as usual!
P.S. I've had my music to automatically start when you open my blog but it was brought to my attention that everyone doesn't enjoy music coming on so if you want to listen just click the play button on the player.

That Was A First
Colton had a basketball game in Marietta today. Afterwards we went to eat. We had slim pickings to choose from but between McDonalds, Sonic or Carls Jr I pulled into Carls Jr. (Don't have one in Madill.) There was not a soul inside and I now have a inkling why. Have you ever been to a fast food joint and placed your order on a kiosk? My first words out of my mouth, loudly mind you, was "are you kidding me?". Of course Colton thought it was cool. Not one person greeted us, told us thank you for coming, NOTHING. It was a little to much "The Jetsons" for me.

Red Punch
Had another good punch recipe to share. I think I like it better than the wedding punch but they both are really good. I don't have an official name for this punch other than red punch. A lady made it for a baby shower we gave last summer & she has been making it for years for her girl's parties and she said they had always just called it the red punch.
3 packages Cherry Koolaid
3 C sugar
6 C water
1 T almond flavoring
Combine in large bowl and pour into gallon baggies. Freeze at least 2 nights before serving. Break into slush and add 1/2 - 1 liter ginger ale.
Enjoy!

Punch
I'm making punch today for my Grandma's 90th birthday party. She turned 90 on 12/28 but we wanted to have her party after the holiday hoopla!
Anway, I just wanted to share this punch recipe with you. It is so good & I often make it in the summer because it gets like Africa hot (name that movie) here and it's so refreshing. I don't know the actual name of it, we just call it the wedding punch because all of my sisters and I served it at our weddings.
3 C sugar
1/2 C Real Lemon
1 1/2 liter Sprite
1 1/2 liter 7 Up
3 C pineapple juice
1 to 2 quarts ginger ale
Mix all ingredients, except for ale, together in large bowl. Pour into gallon baggies. Freeze at least 2 nights before the day you are serving. Set out to thaw a little when you serve. Place in punch bowl, pour ginger ale over and start breaking it apart to make slush. I usually double this recipe because I get the larger can of pineapple juice.
This is the big crowd version of the recipe. It serves about 150.
5 lbs sugar
1-32oz bottle Real Lemon
4-42oz cans pineapple juice
6-2 liter Sprite
6-2 liter 7 Up
8-2 quarts ginger ale
P.S. Just looked in the recipe book for the big crowd version and it's called Church Punch.
